Hangar 18

Why this project?

I chose to do research on Hangar 18 for a number of reasons. First, I have been a resident of Dayton, Ohio for more than 20 years and I have heard rumors of aliens and UFOs being housed at Hangar 18 repeatedly; however, I really didn’t know where or how these rumors got started, only that there were “aliens” allegedly being kept at Wright Patterson. Secondly, I drive by Hangar 18 every day when I get on the highway to head home from campus. Every time I look over at the structure, I wonder about those rumors, but still I have never felt inclined to inquire about the truth behind them. This is mostly because I wouldn’t have known where to start. Finally, when I found out our class was going to do this research project, I made a brainstorming list like everyone else. Unfortunately, Hangar 18 didn’t make it to my “I wonder…” list. So, when it came time to make a decision about my iSearch topic, I went back to consult my list of ideas, but still couldn’t settle on a topic that sounded like fun to research. So, what did I do?  I asked my ten-year old son what he thought I should use as a topic for my research report. He answered in a split second: “You should investigate if there really is a UFO in Hangar 18.” It was that simple. He had no idea about my frequent considerations of the truth behind our military’s alleged involvement in hiding UFOs from its citizen population. It seemed to me this was a “Twilight Zone” moment. In fact, I think I heard Rod Serling whisper in my ear, “You are about to enter…Hangar 18,” followed by that unmistakable little tune: doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo. At that moment, I knew I had to find the truth.
